Working alongside professors and my colleague, I helped plan, organize and present an online learning workshop for students in the School of Social Work. This presentation gave information on how to use Canvas and Collaborate Ultra effectively.
We also provided strategies for how to stay focused and motivated while learning from home during a global pandemic.
The presentation took place on August 15, 2020, over Collaborate Ultra and received a significant amount of positive feedback from the students and faculty members that attended the workshop.
Throughout this experience, I really improved my communication and organizational skills. By working and planning for a virtual event where I had to teach others about different software, I had to constantly put myself in the audience's shoes to figure out what their needs are and how the information I was giving them would be beneficial. I went through a long and iterative process by making a PowerPoint presentation, creating a script and receiving feedback from other students and faculty members in the School of Social Work. Furthermore, I also think that I improved my public speaking and presentation skills as I have never done a presentation for such a large audience before. It was very nerve-wracking, but with practice and support, it went smoothly.
