In May 2021, we launched our first Student Ambassador Program. This new project involved us hiring students from universities across Canada to participate in the program. We hired four students to join our marketing and sales teams respectively. After a long and thoughtful hiring process, we successfully created our new sales and marketing teams. I had the great opportunity of being a leader for the marketing team. As the leader, I would assign them tasks, work with them on their written and visual marketing materials, and brainstorm different marketing campaigns. This was a very insightful learning moment for me as I really wanted to improve my leadership skills.

Throughout this experience, I learned many different things about being a leader and creating larger marketing campaigns. By leading a team of four students to improve our marketing efforts and outreach, I was able to push myself out of my comfort zone and improve my communication and leadership skills. After the two month period that the student ambassadors were with us, I received very helpful feedback from them. We worked as a team to come up with a Pride Month campaign and other marketing materials. As the leader of the team, I quickly improved my organizational skills to manage everyone's tasks and deadlines which resulted in a large increase in our LinkedIn followers. While I quickly improved in this area, I learned that I can continue to improve the way I run team meetings. There are still many strategies I can learn and implement in order to make team meetings more lively and productive. For the future, I plan to apply the feedback I received from the students and learn more about running effective meetings.
