Learning Significance

  1. I was voted to be the president of the swim club in my second year at UBC. Being one of the newest members on the executive team was very intimidating for me and I had never been an executive for a UBC club before. I really had to adapt to the new situation and find my place as the leader of the swim club. I learned a lot about taking risks and making decisions on my own about what steps to take, as well as what to do to overcome conflicts. I gained a lot of leadership and communication skills. The learning curve was very steep when I first took on this position, however, I also became more confident and organized by being audacious throughout this time.
