App Design for Adobe Creative Jam Design Competition

I participated in an Adobe Creative Jam student design competition held by Airbnb and Adobe. Under a team setting, I designed a storytelling app called Documented, for Airbnb.

During this design competition, I designed an app that allows users to document their travel experiences by posting pictures and videos in digital “scrapbooks” and share them with the public. This platform would encourage people to document their memories in an album that they can look back on, as well as share travel tips such as restaurant and Airbnb reviews.

Below are some sample screenshots of the prototype of the app. This design was created using the Adobe XD software.

Users can post pictures, videos and captions related to their experiences. Those who create albums on their profile about their trips can also share their posts with the other people they are travelling with in order to collaboratively create an album of memories. These albums can also be published to the public and others can see what the community experiences when travelling with Airbnb.

When using Documented, users do not have to design their albums from scratch. They have the ability to choose from a variety of templates in order to easily and quickly upload pictures, videos, text, reviews, and links in an organized and aesthetic manner. This way, users are able to continuously document their travel experiences on the go!

On Documented, users create a profile, much like a standard social media platform that outlines all of the albums they created throughout their travel experiences. Here they can see all of their followers and people they are following. They can edit their profile by either changing their profile picture, updating their bio, or by even editing their current albums.

Learning Significance

  1. Throughout this design competition, I learned a lot about working for another user. Putting myself into another person's shoes and thinking about how this product would benefit them really opened my eyes to how effective designs are created. I went through a whole design process along with my partner to brainstorm and design this prototype. I was able to use the skills I have learned in school by applying them to this project which further deepened my understanding of design. While completing this project, I have become aware of how much I enjoy solving problems and creating solutions for other people.
